Govinda Dasa First Grade College

             Govinda Dasa College was started in 1967, the Golden Jubilee Year of the H.V. Sangha, and completes 39 years of its useful service in the field education to the young men and women of Suratkal and surrounding areas. The College has made rapid progress during the last four decades. The chief objective of the college is to provide quality education at an affordable cost to the students of the Suratkal region which has a special socio-economic and cultural background. The College is functioning in its own spacious buildings situated in the city of Surathkal, Karnataka State, India and affiliated to Mangalore University.

           The climate of Suratkal is humid and warm between November and May and wet and cool during the monsoon months of June to October. It has a tropical climate characteristic of coastal plains in the West of India. Suratkal, being located on an elevated place near the sea shore and existed in the Latitude 12°12'46.6" North, Longitude 74°48'27.56", has fine breeze throughout the day and the temperature ranges from 24°C to 38°C for most part of the year. The rainfall amounts to about 260-300 inches/year mainly during the monsoon months of June to October.

             Computer Education was introduced in 1992 (Silver Jubilee Year) and the college has a very good computerized and bar coded Library, well equipped laboratories and a large play ground. Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA), B.B.M. and Journalism as optional to B.A. students are the newly introduced courses. The College Provides education for about 700 students and the results of the university examinations have been fairly high all these years, with several ranks in the university level examinations.
